Louis Vuitton and Singer pulled the covers off two reimagined Porsche 911s in Monterey on August 12, and the headline isn't the paint. In 172 years the House has never co-branded a product with anyone — these two cars are the first time it has, and Singer says the same is true from its side. That's the story.

The first car is a Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer – Classic, a coupe wearing an exclusive saffron and cobalt blue livery mixed specifically for the project, with yellow accents. Louis Vuitton points out that the saffron has sat in its archives for over a century and a half and has fronted its packaging for twenty-odd years, and that it rhymes with Porsche's own Bahama Yellow. It rides with a purpose-built roof rack sized for a trunk, a surfboard or a pair of skis — the Art of Travel line taken literally.

The second is a Classic Turbo cabriolet conceived by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton's Artistic Director of Women's Collections, finished in Calcaire Lutétien white with precious-wood trim. Softer, quieter, and aimed at a different kind of drive.

The whole thing started with a clock. A Singer client asked for a dashboard timepiece for the coupe he was commissioning; La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Switzerland built a detachable mechanical movement inspired by the Tambour — twelve polished, engraved letters spelling the House name around the bezel — that lifts out of the cockpit and works as a desk clock. Once that was in, the rest of the instrument binnacle had to follow. Speedometer, rev counter and gauges were all redrawn in Tambour's graphic language, cobalt blue dials with bright orange lettering, a job Louis Vuitton describes as a year of work.

Neither company has published a price, and neither should you expect to configure one. These are one-off commissions, not a collection — Singer's own release frames them as two cars, revealed, full stop. Louis Vuitton says it's the first project every department in the house has touched, from watchmaking and trunk-making through to footwear and fashion.
