One of the biggest collaborations in 2023 has finally released to the public, following a series of immersive pop-ups hosted around the globe.

Dior Tears is the ultimate bridging of the gap between streetwear and luxury clothing, with two respective figures of prominence collaborating to shed light on varsity inspired styles that draw on the early jazz movement of the mid-20th century.

The collection was first revealed last December, when Kim Jones and Tremaine Emory posted up in Cairo’s Grand Egyptian Museum to unleash one of the finest examples of luxury streetwear to date, demonstrating yet another stroke of genius from Mr. Jones, who’s five-year tenure as Creative Director of menswear at the French luxury house has seen them team up with Stüssy, Sacai and ERL, now granting Denim Tears the opportunity to flourish on the grandiose stage.

The celebration of Dior’s inventiveness and the strength of its creative dialogues is achieved by employing Emory’s love for all mediums of art, expressed here through preppy, mid-century jazz-inspired combinations that stay true to his design mission of shedding light on those who came before him, specifically in black culture.

At a glance, the collection leans heavily into Emory’s background (in) and Jones’ love for streetwear, with slightly oversized cuts running throughout, also tackling the workwear trend with carpenter trousers and overalls, coloured in cream with a sharp monogram print on the functional panelling.

One of the wilder pieces featured in the collection is the Carlo Slide, which is business in the front with a traditional calfskin construction, although missing the rear half to achieve what can only be described as the “dressiest mules in the game”, complete with a golden “Dior Tears” signature across the left and right heels.

The amalgamated "Dior Tears" logo features on bold tees and varsity garb, proving to be the perfect appliqué design for letterman jackets and sweaters. Alongside the boldly branded items, an aberrant selection of mohair sneakers are accompanied by vibrant knits.

Finally, the collaborative source is most recognisable on the denim pieces, where all-over Dior print and Denim Tears’ wreath graphic acts as a luxe camouflage for the modern Jazz enthusiast.
