Sotheby’s are renowned auctioneers that have traditionally specialised in only the rarest of items. Thanks to the recent boom in hype-culture, the auction-house has opened their doors to sneakers, streetwear and all sorts of ‘hyped’ memorabilia - just look at the recent Nike Air Yeezy “Red October” and the Complete Set of Virgil Abloh's Off-White™ x Nike "The Ten" as two listings to recently hit the Sotheby’s catalogue.
Now, they are auctioning off one of the rarest Supreme items known to man. The item in question is a one-of-thirty six BMX, specially produced by Brooklyn Machine Works back in 1998.
Supreme founder James Jebbia commissioned the velocipedeexperts to create thirty six bespoke 24” BMX cruiser bikes for each of his trusted employees across their four stores worldwide.
Eric Clapton
The BMX seen in this auction was once owned by none-other than Eric Clapton, legendary guitarist and long-time Supreme head - just adding that extra bit of provenance to an already lore-rich BMX warrants a starting price of $50,000. Currently there are no bids on the item, so act fast - the auction ends on April 6th.
