Sacai x Interstellar is Out of This World

As we patiently wait for Sacai’s flagship collab with Carhartt to drop later this year, the Japanese luxe-streetwear brand is gearing up another, more niche capsule that features iconography from Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.

Upon releasing in 2014, Interstellar was instantly recognised as one of Nolan’s most ambitious pictures and is widely regarded as one of the best sci-fi films made to date. The grounded fantasy of space travel was underscored by an emotional tale of sacrifice and family, all fuelled by Oscar-grade visuals and a stellar performance from leading man Matthew McConaughey.

Sacai’s partnership with Interstellar focuses on the most pivotal plot device in the movie, using ‘Murph’s bookcase’ as the centrepiece of almost every article featured in the collection.

The graphic is displayed across a parka, ribbed cardigan, sweater, trousers, fur-collared puffer and headgear.

Elsewhere, equations, morse-code and blueprints feature on a down jacket and bomber, with the most incognito reference appearing on a leather-sleeved varsity jacket that reads “Not just ours, no. But it is our home” - taken from a foreshadowing interaction between Cooper (McConaughey) and Dr. Brand (Michael Caine).

Sacai’s Interstellar capsule collection will be available from the brand’s website on July 14th.
