On paper, New Balance and Carhartt is the ultimate brand partnership and when the two joined forces last year, their initial outing on a Navy 990v1 proved as much by hitting the sweet spot between Carhartt’s unwavering approach to workwear and the patriotic spirit that is ingrained in New Balance’s DNA.

Carhartt and New Balance are the last battalion of the “Made in the USA” generation and although times have forced most brands to export production overseas, Carhartt’s workwear division and New Balance’s MADE line honours the history of homegrown quality by producing as much as they can within the land of the free.
Although this collaboration falls under the guise of Carhartt WIP, the same workwear DNA is prevalent and lends itself seamlessly to New Balance’s functional canvas.
The New Balance 990v6 is the latest entry to the storied 990 range that through tasteful palettes courtesy of Teddy Santis and a handful of collabs from Action Bronson and WTAPS, has earned its spot as one of the best fresh silhouettes to drop from the Bostonian brand in recent years.
Adhering to both brands’ aligned ethos of producing timeless quality, New Balance is capitalising on the hype of the 990v6 by enlisting Carhartt to display classic ‘workwear’ shades across the pseudo lifestyle runner.
The brown synonymous with Carhartt’s duck canvas coats and carpenters features on the heel, side and toecap with a more reddish hue set on the perforated tabs and an even darker shade on the reflective strip below the eyelets.
Completing the traditional Carhartt colour scheme, a silvery grey mesh and heel tab calls to the ubiquitous wave patch that adorns so many garments worn by so many across the globe.
Retailing at $220 USD, the Carhartt WIP x New Balance 990v6 will be available at Carhartt-WIP.com on Friday, October 20th at 10:00am CET.
