First Look: New Balance x Joe Freshgoods 1000

After reports surfaced that New Balance experienced more growth in revenue than any of its big name competitors in 2023, the brand cannot rest on its laurels and following the unprecedented success birthed from retro releases of the 2002r, 550 and 1906r, Balance Balance is aiming to revive another forgotten silhouette for 2024.

New Balance 1000 (1999) vs 2024 Retro

The New Balance 1000 first released in the late 90’s and much like the aforementioned silhouettes, didn’t receive the mainstream love it deserved at the time and over two decades of vault dwelling later, New Balance is set to release numerous faithful reissues of the 1000 over the coming months, seemingly kicking things off with a collaboration involving Joe Freshgoods.

Joe Freshgoods is a household name to New Balance heads and sneaker enthusiasts in general, thanks to a tear of solid New Balance collaborations since his initial work on the 992 in 2020, most recently dropping a trio of 990v4’s that took heed from the cult film Belly.

Now turning his talents to the New Balance 1000, Joe Freshgoods has revealed two colourways for the silhouette titled “Pink Mink” and “Black Ice” that as we approach the April release window, will no doubt receive further explanation as to their deeper meanings, which has been the case with all Joe Freshgoods projects thus far.

Both versions opt for the same textile choice and construction, with a metallic finish on the synthetic uppers and a loose gauge mesh underneath. Uniformity is present on both pairs’ via the old-school inspired gum outsole.

Expect the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 1000 Pink Mink & Black Ice to release in April 2024.
