Kith x Asics Celebrate 60 Years of the X-Men with “Mystery Pack” Sneaker Collection

When it comes to his beloved brand, Ronnie Fieg is something of a renaissance man.

Whether it’s enlisting the best screen actors around or whipping up timeless palettes on classic sneaker silhouettes, the Kith brand has no shortage of quality collaborations in its ever-growing vault and the latest to come from the mind of owner Ronnie Fieg is a three way link-up between Kith, Asics and the X-Men, that aims to refresh feelings of nostalgia for those who grew up with a comic book in their hands.

The collaboration comes just in time for the 60th anniversary of Marvel Comics‘ X-Men and as such, celebrates six key characters from the mutants’ lineage.

Cyclops, Beast, Rogue, Gambit, Storm, and Wolverine have each got their own colourway of the Asics GEL-LYTE III, with the most iconic X-Man being used as the inspiration for two separate designs that reference Wolverine suit designs from 1975 and 1980.

The shoes all come wrapped in special “Mystery Pack” packaging that similar to the Huf x Nike SB Dunks from earlier this year, means the buyer will not know which design they have purchased until the box is opened and the foil is unsealed. 

This choice was undertaken by Ronnie Fieg as a nod to collectors who would buy packs upon packs of trading cards just for the chance to acquire some rare attanium, also weeding out resellers who would chase the most hyped colourway for profit alone.

Attached to the designs are special “Marvel x Kith Trading Cards” that features the corresponding characters likenesses as a final touch for those who appreciate the finer details.

Going even further to honour the venerated super squad, Fieg has also drawn up several Kith x Marvel Arcade1Up Machines that will be winnable as a prize in a head-to-head tournament, where San Diego Comic-Con patrons can battle it out over a game of X-Men: Children of the Atom.

The limited edition Arcade1Up Machines will also be up for sale via Kith on July 24th.

To ensure the right people have a chance at obtaining the Kith x X-Men x Asics GEL-LYTE III, Kith will be hosting a pop up at San Diego Comic-Con until July 23rd, before a wider release takes place at Kith on July 28th.
