Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Drop Trailer for Nike Movie - AIR

The trailer for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s latest joint-produced venture AIR just dropped, teasing the dramatisation of the events that led to the historic signing of Michael Jordan as Nike’s face of their basketball division and the later inception of the Jordan brand as we know it.

Nike’s rebirth came in 1984, when their contention for basketball shoe supremacy against adidas and then-competitors Converse was beginning to reach futility, until Sonny Vaccaro, played by Matt Damon, made the bold move to sign Michael Jordan to the swoosh, stealing his ‘John Hancock’ straight from the clutches of adidas. 

The story goes that Jordan initially wanted to go the three stripes route, as he’d always been a fan of their approach and was being offered more money than at Nike, however, his agent and mother convinced the star athlete otherwise and one year later, the ubiquitous Air Jordan 1 debuted, Michael Jordan took the NBA by storm and the rest, as they say, is history.

Affleck co-stars as Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, alongside an ensemble cast of Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Jason Bateman and Marlon Wayans.
