Virtual Gucci Bag Sells in Roblox for More Than Real Life Equivalent

A virtual Gucci bag has made headlines after selling on gaming platform Roblox for $4,115 - more than the real bag's actual retail value of $3,400.

The digital asset was introduced as part of a two week Gucci Garden Experience event held in collaboration with the platform where collectable themed goods including the bag were offered for sale in the game's "Robux" currency for limited periods.

Roblox users who had snapped up the limited items began listing them for hundreds of thousands of Robux (equivalent to thousands of dollars in real cash) and the purchase of the $4,115 virtual bag was made in the ensuing resell frenzy.

The virtual bee-embroidered Gucci Dionysus bag - which initially cost 475 Robux or around $5.50 - is not an NFT or transferable outside of the Roblox platform.

Subsequent virtual Gucci items have so far failed to reach the same resell peaks as the bag with recent sales levelling out to around $800.
