Wales Bonner is Back with More Retro-Inspired adidas Kicks

In what has now become an integral cog in the ever-spinning streetwear machine, British brand Wales Bonner continues to make waves for its continental compatriot adidas, releasing a renewed roundup of three stripe models that look to reaffirm the duo’s dominance as we enter Summer 2024.

Akin to Aimé Leon Dore’s strong-arming of the New Balance 550 into cultural relevancy, Wales Bonner is handily responsible for today’s oversaturation of adidas Samba‘s and now four years on from the beginning of their fruitful partnership, Wales Bonner is once again tackling the usual adidas suspects, continuing the winning formula of pairing eccentric material choices with heritage models, also releasing an aesthetic-matched lineup of apparel to boot.

The Samba name is attached to two seperate models, including the OG variation common in today’s trends, in addition to a more performance-oriented makeup dubbed the Samba Millennium.

The Samba Millennium can be identified by its chunkier sole unit, modernised upper and extra padding that were introduced in 2009 as suitable updates for the modern indoor footballer.

Leaning into the performance angle of the Samba Millenium, Wales Bonner has decided to use soft, padded leather on the main points of contact, swapping between heavy-grain leather and electric blue pony hair across the two pairs.

The Samba OG’s presence in the collection denotes familiar hallmarks of a Wales Bonner x adidas collab, with animal-effect leather tabs and exaggerated stitching at the tongue and heel counters.

Further remixing of terrace icons results in two makeovers of adidas’ SL76, where the track runner is subjected to a duo of loose-lattice mesh fabrications arriving in ash blue and yellow.

General sporty clobber fills the rest of the capsule, using the familiar three stripes and trefoil logos to realise vintage-inspired tops, shorts and more.

Highlights include the crochet knit vest, shorts and matching bag, plus the vintage-inspired leather satchels, updated colour schemes of the popular co-branded tees and check bucket hat.

The latest Wales Bonner x adidas collection will be available Tuesday, May 21st via adidas CONFIRMED.
