On a run of creative collaborations, this time South Korean streetwear brand thisisneverhat have dreamed up a collection inspired by the work of cult favourite Texas musician and artist Daniel Johnston, releasing Friday 26th June.
Daniel Johnston is a cultural icon for many, beloved for his pure and unfiltered style of emotional expression through his music and artworks. Often described as having a childlike quality, Johnston's drawings often featured recurring themes of interpersonal relationships and inner turmoil, as well as recurring figures including Jeremiah the Frog.
Jeremiah for some is best recognised as the figure on the "Hi, How Are You" artwork for the album of the same name, worn on a t-shirt famously worn by fellow music icon Kurt Cobain. He is represented in the collection on the Frog tee plus a vinyl figurine with a branded presentation stand.
The collection references not only Johnston's musical projects but also his artwork, often line drawings with colourful marker pen elements. Pieces such as the Faded Jersey Polo pull small design elements from Daniel's works including a skull, an apple and a heart and print them across the front and back of the garment.
The Songs of Pain Faded Tee references the first full album from the artist, self-recorded by tape recorder and released on cassette tape.
The Yip Jump Striped Tee references Johnston's fifth album of the same name, this time featuring the cartoon-style baby artwork on striped cotton jersey.
TNT Daniel Johnston Jeremiah the Innocent Frog Vinyl SculptureThe thisisneverthat x Daniel Johnston collection releases via thisisneverthat webstore from Friday 26th June, 10am EDT and 4pm CEST.
